Daily Maintenance and Care for Steam Retorts
2025-09-17
If there is steam leakage at the inlet and outlet pipe joints, and tightening the nuts does not resolve the issue, you should add or replace the packing material.
Pressure gauges and safety valves should be inspected regularly, and any faulty units should be promptly replaced and repaired.
After the gearbox has been in use for 50 hours, it should be disassembled, the lubricating oil drained, and then rinsed with kerosene or diesel. Afterwards, refill it with clean No. 30–40 machine oil. The second oil change should be performed after 150 hours of operation. Thereafter, depending on specific conditions, the oil should be changed approximately every 1,000 hours of use.
If the rust-preventive oil peels off, it should be reapplied promptly. For painting the outer retort, we recommend using X55-3 aluminum powder ethylene water-resistant paint.
After five years of use, it is recommended to conduct a safety hydrostatic test on this retort. Thereafter, the interval between subsequent hydrostatic tests should be determined according to the requirements of the local technical authorities.
The pressure Pwater for the hydrostatic test shall be determined according to the following conditions:
When the rated working air pressure P 额 (rated working pressure) is less than 0.6 MPa, Pwater = 0.15 MPa.
When the rated working pressure P 额 (rated working pressure) = 0.6–0.8 MPa,
P_water = P_rated + 0.3 MPa
The outer retort body of this equipment is made from steel plate with a thickness of 4.0 to 5.5 millimeters, grade A3. When the outer retort has been corroded over the years and its thickness has reduced to below 2 mm, it should no longer be used.
For welding of this stainless steel retort and for welding joints between stainless steel and other types of steel, stainless steel electrodes such as A102, A107, A132, and A137 should be used; other grades are not recommended.
